Splitwyse · love & ledger
Because 50/50
isn't always fair.
Different salaries, same standing. Splitwyse pools what you both earn, covers the household, and splits what's left so each of you keeps the same to spend. A shared cost counts the same whoever paid it — a debit order leaving one account, groceries picked up by the other — and whatever that leaves uneven is balanced by one transfer on payday.
Same couple · the month as it really goes
One transfer, and it moves with the month
Debit orders are predictable, so Partner B's payday transfer is a settled number — their share of the household's standing costs. Then real life happens: one of you picks up the groceries, the other covers the vet. You are not spending at the same time, so Splitwyse follows the whole month and moves that one number. Nothing is itemised between you, and nobody is billed for anything.
A usual month
Partner B transfers on payday
€950
the settled number — B's share of the standing costs
This month, with extras
Groceries €190 · Vet €110
Partner B transfers on payday
€800€150 less
the €300 B already paid counts, and the extra spending costs the two of you €150 each
Had Partner A picked up those extras instead, the number would move the other way — to €1,100 — because it always follows who actually paid. Either way both partners land on €2,000, nothing is carried into next month, and no tally is kept between you.
Same couple · same month · three splits
Watch the gap between you close
Split equally
Not fair€2,000 each, off two very different salaries. Equal on paper — not at home.
left to spend
Split by income
Somewhat fairThe bigger salary carries the bigger share. Kinder — but the gap only narrows.
left to spend
Pool & split what's left
Truly fairOne pool covers the household; what's left splits evenly. Same standing, whatever you earn.
left to spend
All three splits are built in — Splitwyse never forces a model. It just shows you, to the cent, what each one really does.
Beyond the split
Fair is also…
Private
Personal spending, records and categories are invisible to your partner — love doesn’t run on surveillance.
Explainable
The maths is visible, every change carries a reason, and shared money keeps a who-what-when log.
Protective
Earn less than an equal share of the costs? Your contribution caps — fairness never sends anyone backwards.
Effortless
Debit orders confirm with a tap — or book themselves on their date. A fair month shouldn’t be a chore.
The whole picture
Savings, pensions, loans, a home, a car, stocks — and nine Insights reports drawn from your own numbers.
How it's kept safe
Security, on the record
AUTHPasskeys — your face or fingerprint, never a password. Invites arrive as single-use links that expire.
DATAPersonal scope enforced in the data layer and tested — a partner cannot query it.
MATHMoney is integer cents; splits use largest-remainder allocation, so parts always sum.
HOSTSelf-hosted in the EU. No analytics, no ads, no data leaves the household.
SAVENightly off-site backups, and a one-tap export of everything your account can see.
LOGEvery change to shared money lands in a visible activity log — who, what, when.
“Fair isn't 50/50 when salaries aren't. Fair is both of you left standing in the same place.”
